Latest Flyer

Here's the text (English and Spanish) of the latest flyer that has been distributed at the Orange terminal gate:

Teamsters Negotiate Tentative Agreement for USF Reddaway Workers

What’s Next for Workers at the Orange Terminal?

On August 1st, at a meeting between Teamster leaders and management in Scottsdale, AZ, the tentative agreement will be finalized. See the attached article for more information about what has been negotiated for newly organized USF Reddaway terminals.

If a majority of Orange workers sign authorization cards before August 1st,

§ your terminal will also be recognized.
§ you have a chance to influence the final contract.
§ you will be able to join with the other recognized terminals and participate in the ratification vote.

Newly organized workers do not pay initiation fees. But if there’s a change of operations, and you transfer to an organized terminal, like Pomona, and you’re not a Teamster member, you’ll have to pay an initiation fee (which can total several hundred dollars $$$).

The choice is yours.

If you haven’t signed a card, here’s your chance to improve your future and the future of your family. You are invited to an organizing meeting at the Local Union hall on Sunday, August 12th at 8:30 a.m., where we’ll discuss the USF Reddaway contract.

For more information, call Teamster organizer Jeff Sweet at 714-740-6230.

Los Teamsters Negocian el Acuerdo Tentativo para Trabajadores de
USF Reddaway

Company and Teamsters Reach Tentative Agreement

Today, Teamster staff called USF Reddaway organizing committee members to report that top USF Reddaway management and union leadership have reached a tentative agreement.

At terminals that have been recognized, a ratification vote will take place.

It seems that if enough drivers and dockmen at Orange sign authorization cards, we'll also be able to vote "yes" or "no" to the tentative deal.

In flyers to be distributed at the gate in Orange next week, more details will be available, especially on how we can get recognition, but here are a few items of interest:

  • card-check agreement for terminals not yet recognized
  • Teamsters Western Conference Pension Trust
  • workers at union terminals get higher wages than non-union terminals.

Will Decertifications Make the Teamsters Back Off?

I've heard that some people believe that the union is going to quit because a few workers at a few terminals have filed for a decertification election.

Click on this link for a copy of one of the flyers that I got from the Teamster organizers at the gate in Orange.

Looks to me like the workers at the Modesto terminal don't think that the guy who filed the petition, Anthony Rodriguez, speaks for them. It looks to me like the guys who signed the petition are thinking for themselves.

Letter of Support from Roadway Workers

Tonight, one of the organizers emailed me a copy of a letter that more than 50 drivers and dockworkers at the Roadway terminal in Orange signed. You can download both pages by clicking on these links (sorry about the advertising; it's a free service)
http://savefile.com/files/783974
http://savefile.com/files/783975

For those who can't download, here is the text of the letter:

An open letter to USF Reddaway workers from Roadway workers:

We, the undersigned Roadway employees, support your efforts to join the Teamsters Union.

Yellow Roadway Corporation (YRC), the parent company for both of our employers, recruits new employees on their website www.bestdriverswanted.com with the following statement:

“…our better wages attract and retain employees who bring extra quality, productivity and savings...the benefits of a better trained, better retained, safer work force create the highest levels of customer service and flow to our bottom line. Our management and the Teamsters have been partners. The challenge is to make our partnership work for everyone who has a stake in our success - customers, employees, local communities, and shareholders.”

It’s clear that YRC management considers the Teamsters Union critical to the profitability of the corporation. Just like us, you deserve the improved working conditions that are guaranteed under a strong union contract.
