Copy of Update Flyer

[The following was scanned from the flyer that was distributed at the Orange terminal this afternoon. It seems to me that it would be a big mistake to fail to sign a card now.

The Teamsters have come a long way, but they can negotiate a better deal for everybody if the company understands that all the terminals are on board, not just the seven terminals who have been recognized.]

All the Way at USF Reddaway

We heard your request for more involvement. Our efforts have been focused on
fighting for gains at the bargaining table. We need you, our Teamster members,
working together to make this a solid contract at USF Reddaway.

The contract covers you and hundreds of your coworkers who organized for
power at seven former USF Bestway terminals in California, Arizona and New
Mexico.

You will ultimately vote on the contract. In the meantime, we have already
won the following gains at the bargaining table:

§ Protections against excessive subcontracting—making Reddaway accountable
for all linehaul jobs and delivery areas;
§ Excellent grievance procedure and dispute resolution process that ensures a
worker’s rights on the job are respected and that the company adheres to the
contract;
§ Clear and realistic formula for obtaining full-time work with full-time benefits
(hours/days worked);
§ Protection against job loss if further corporate consolidations or redomicilings
occur;
§ Easier process for bringing new terminals under contract, and
§ Written recognition of seniority protection, layover rules, availability of leaves
of absence, recall rights

What we are still fighting for:

§ Superior hourly and mileage-rate increases;
§ Locked in health and welfare benefits for the duration of the contract;
§ Improvements in retirement protection, including the establishment of a superior
defined benefit plan;
§ Clear process for order of call;
§ Locked in holiday, vacation and sick leave benefits;
§ Guaranteed formulas for calculating applicable hourly and mileage rates, and
§ Parity with other areas of operations within USF Reddaway and
Yellow/Roadway networks so one carrier can’t be played against another.

When is this all going to take place? Why has no one talked to me about it? I understand that you have everybodies phone number. Why has nobody called me? We cant stop and talk to you at the outbound fence, there is no place to park, and the company is watching.
I think you union guys are being a little bit lazy.

Thanks for the anonymous comment.

I understand that the Teamsters will be taking additional steps soon to communicate to workers who have signed an authorization card (and given their phone numbers).

So what happens for those who haven't yet signed a card?

How about calling the phone numbers that are listed on the flyers and leaving a message with your phone number on it? That would be completely confidential, and there's no way the company can watch what you do in the privacy of your home.

We are not signing cards alone one at a time, we will only sign as a team. Everybody goes, or nobody goes. You dont seem to understand that we mean this.

A Message From Teamsters National Freight Division Director Tyson Johnson

May 23, 2007

As we prepare to negotiate the National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) later this year, we realize that you, our members, are very concerned about your pensions.

Your concern may be heightened by the recent proposal from UPS to create a new, joint Teamsters-company pension plan to cover full-time UPS employees who currently obtain their pension benefits from the Central States Fund.

UPS' proposal is just that, a proposal. Teamster leaders are studying the proposal now and gathering information from the Central States Fund to fully assess the impact. You can be assured that your Teamster leaders will not support any proposal that will harm any active or retired Central States member.

You may have also heard that CEO Robert Davidson of ABF has been giving reports that he would like to have his company withdraw from all Teamster pension plans. We will not permit ABF or any other freight company to do anything that will harm any active or retired Central States member. Please be assured that any proposal related to pensions from ABF, or any other freight company, will not be discussed until NMFA talks begin later this year.

I urge you to not be swayed by rumors. Instead, visit the Teamsters web site for the latest information.

Our pension is not the central states pension. Our pension is the Western Conference Teamsters Pension Fund, with 40 billion in assets, and no problems. Anyone who brings up any other pension is trying to confuse you. If you bank at Wells Fargo, what do you want with info from Bank of America?

The Teamsters said; they would be here all next week. They gave me a
Union T-shirt, but they said; I could not learn the secret hand shake until we had a majority of guys on board. Come on guys, be a little bit independent, do it for your families. This will make us stonger.

TagLine,
i'm new to the company. could you tell me why guys want to wait to sign cards all together? what do they hope to gain by waiting?

Kari Hoefnagels said...

Not sure, I've decided, but many guys tell me together or not at all. I think the Teamsters have to do a better job of reaching out to these guys on the weekend. Somebody wrote, beer and pizza. I say, beer, pizza, fried chicken, steaks, and fire arms.
