Today at work was really positive. More guys seemed like they wanted to talk about it. I signed a long time ago. How close are we?
Regarding the question from the card-signer about how close we are: thanks for leaving your comment!
The short answer is that we are very close. Obviously, some guys are still waiting to see what happens at the negotiations.
But by sitting on the fence and not getting involved, they give the impression to the company that we're not united. In that case, it's natural for the top management to not take us seriously, and so they don't feel the need to give us a more generous contract.
If anyone who hasn't signed is interested in getting a decent pension, for example, join us and sign a card.
We want to go as a team. The fullerton guys are going to sign as a group, or not sign at all. But most guys are looking forward to it. We just dont want to be tricked by the company or the union.
to answer the post about bieng tricked by the company or the union, it takes two votes to become union. the first is to sign an authorization card and second to agree to the contract.if the contract is not good the majority can not vote for it and we stay non union. however time is critical because negotiations are giong on now we must be involved
to continue:right now only the union terminals have a say in the contract! dont you want to have a say? or do you want to settle for whatever comton etc. agrees to? its not to late we can still have a say. as far as going as a group thats great but yes or no quickly or we will get what has already been agreed to.
We have over 50 cards now, we just need about 10 more. You guys that keep saying maybe, need to make a decision for a better future. A better future that you deserve.
To the management, we know your reading this. Your going to get a better employee, more committed, and in for the long haul, because of the improved benefits.
By the way, thanks for the barbeque, it was great. It took a little stress away, and everybody enjoyed it.
Can anybody give us an update of what happened in the company/union talks? Will the talks continue this coming week?
The talks broke down again last friday. And because many of the union reps were involved in the National Teamsters Conference, both last week and this coming week, the reps were not outside of the terminals. The company knew that the reps were at the conference, and made statements, and passed out false information about the teamsters giving up. There maybe a few cowards up north that want to give up, but the Teamsters will not give up. New talks will start up again soon, and we will let you know when they do. We, "The Reddaway Hourly" employees have a lot to gain by standing strong. We deserve better benefits. We have earned them. When supervisors like Victor,(at the orange terminal) hand out disinformation about failing pensions, or tell you the Union is over, consider the source. Our pension is 40 billion strong. The "Western Conference Teamsters Pension Fund" is solid. It is located in California, and has a great rating, and none of the problems that East Coast Funds might have. And our moto, as far as becoming Teamsters will be : AS-LONG-AS-IT-TAKES.
